The app I use the most by far is Instagram. Initially, I enjoyed Instagram for sharing photos with friends, but over time, I’ve come to use it to catch up on sports and watch highlights from various media outlets. I appreciate the variety of actual footage from the games and events, along with different takes from my favorite analysts.
When using different digital media and social media apps, I mostly have positive reactions. I use them for entertainment and don’t take what I see too seriously. Most of my social feed is sports and dog videos, and I prefer to keep it that way. It’s not my main source for current events, and I try to avoid viewing the nonsense. It’s the internet, so there will always be certain things that warrant a negative reaction, but for the most part, the shared content on these platforms is enjoyable.
In terms of entertainment, video content is my preferred form of digital media. Whether I’m watching golf videos on YouTube, reels on Instagram, or streaming my favorite show on Hulu, video content has always been something I enjoy when hanging out. I also like listening to the local radio on my commute to and from work to keep up with current events. Radio and researching different websites are the forms of digital media I prefer for more serious matters.
I receive many emails from companies and use a separate Gmail account for online shopping. I do this to avoid losing track of more important ones in the barrage of emails from various businesses. Occasionally, an email about a new sale or product will catch my attention. Most of the time, when I am shopping, I already know what I am looking for and will research the new deal on my own. I mostly ignore emails because I see ads for companies I am interested in on Instagram and Hulu constantly.
What stands out to me the most in digital media and marketing today is how marketers can reach consumers at any time with social media apps on everyone’s smartphones. Another thing that stands out to me is how specific ads can be across various forms of digital media with data collected from different searches and viewing preferences. Any product I talk about or investigate is always being advertised the next time I am on my phone or watching TV.
